The Gorn with the ruins of the Youth Hostel, destroyed in the tsunami on March 11, 2011 and the "Miracle Pine" - the lone tree that survived the disaster that used to be in a forest. Experts speculate the Youth Hostel saved the tree. Since the disaster, the tree has been preserved as it was inundated with salt water and was dying. - IMG 9376

The shocking sight in the ruins of the former Koyo High School in Kesennuma, Japan. This vehicle was carried by the tsunami wave and crashed into the third floor of the high school where it came to rest. The school is now the Kesennuma City Memorial Museum, a place where people can see the disaster with their own eyes. - IMG 9394
The Gorn looks at the ruins of the former gym of Koyo High School from the roof - the same place the faculty that stayed behind after the school was evacuated sought shelter during the peak of the tsunami. All who were in the school survived the disaster.
