Josh’s Country List

In the 25+ years I have had Club Josh, many people ask me which countries I have been to around the world. It can bring up further questions, so I decided to post my list of countries with the rules behind a) what is a country and b) what constitutes a “visit”. For both of these rules, I rely heavily on an organization dedicated to promoting travel, The Traveler’s Century Club. It is a group where the members consist of people who have visited 100 or more countries and I hope to meet the requirements one day.

What is a country?
Many different people use different criteria as to what is a country and what counts as having “been to a country”. The TCC indicates a “country” on this page.

What is a “visit”
The TCC rules for determining if you have been to a country is a follows: “Members are serious about visiting the destinations and most stay at least a day or two, or more. They are encouraged to do so, but short visits, even a port of call or a plane fuel stop, qualify as a stay. (Some places may be too dangerous or too remote to allow longer stays.) However, one must actually set foot in the destination.” (From TCC’s History page). Personally, I feel that you must do more than set foot in a country, so I only count countries that I have used the restroom (hey, it’s like marking a territory like an animal!)
