If you’ve been a long time Club Josh reader, you know way too much about me. In that volume of knowledge, you also know that I hate, hate moving. Well here we are again, for the first time since 2015, I am in the middle of packing my life up again and moving. Just like 10 years ago, it involves long distance move and a storage unit. I’ve had the same unit for the last decade and today for the first time, I had movers relocated the numerous boxes to a new storage unit that is newer and closer to where I currently live. My parents just tisk tisk me with having paid for storage for so long, but it really has helped living in a smaller apartment since I moved back from China. Thankfully, save two pieces of family furniture, the rest of the furniture was donated to my movers who gladly will recycle them to people in need.
Another positive of the whole experience is I have finally organized the boxes so I know where everything is and can easily access it. With the furniture gone, there is now ample room left in the unit to capture the boxes of newer house goods and any new furniture from my current apartment which I want to keep and will not take with me to my next destination. Of course, looking at the boxes in an organized way makes me realize there are a bunch of them I can probably just get rid of – for example the ones labeled “need to go through”. In an ideal world I will be able to downsize everything before I depart or on one of my home trips later.
Where is my next destination? Well more to come. Like last time, no need to publish where exactly until I make it there. Unlike last time, I will not need to carry everything with me in a couple of suitcases. I will have the luxury of getting items I want to take with me shipped to my new location. It is a blessing and a curse as I am overwhelmed with options and decision paralysis. I’ll know more after a quick trip to find a new place to live. Once I settle that part, I can then determine exactly what I can take with me in the few short weeks I will have left at that point.
More to come!
