Japan 2017 Day 9: Star Jets Farewell

Tuesday October 10, 2017

Our last day at Tokyo Disney Resort dawned and we took our time heading to the Resort today. We had park hopper tickets for day 3 so we leisurely wandered around the Resort. Leslie wanted to spend the bulk of the time at Tokyo Disneyland since she liked the park better. Daniel and I gasped, but since we had been several times and Daniel was focused on the last day of Star Jets we didn’t mind.

We wandered around the park stopping in Westernland and Fantasyland for some photos before heading to Tomorrowland to see if we could take some photos of the Star Jets operating. We managed to get in line for the photo opportunity with the countdown signage you could hold as well as took some Portrait mode photos of Daniel. We then did a quick park hop over to TDS to do some quick shopping and get some photos I wanted to take that I forgot to take the previous day.

Heading back to TDL Tomorrowland as the sun started to go down, we met up with our friend Mariko who works at the Resort for our now traditional photo with her. It is always great to catch up with Mariko and she makes every trip just a little more special when we see her. We then got in the super long line to ride the Star Jets and after forever, we finally did our farewell flight. Once the sun set we did some last minute rides – including one on the Mark Twain around the Rivers of America before heading back to Tomorrowland. Daniel went ahead to Tomorrowland while Leslie and I did some shopping in World Bazaar. We ended up taking longer than expected but we finally managed to track Daniel down and after the park closed. The line for Star Jets was still long and it took them a while before they finished cycling all of the Guests. Finally, there was still a crowd of people waiting around the attraction and once the Cast Members finished their closing duties, we got to see them come out and take a final bow to the Guests. It was moving to see and the crowd was applauding the Cast the whole time.

As much as I like to make fun of Daniel for basically flying to Japan to see the closure of an attraction, it was well worth it and was a truly magical moment to see. Afterwards, with the park closing down, we hurried around to do one final check of the shops before catching the train back to the apartment. It was super late when we got back and we crashed.
