Japan 2017 Day 10: The Long Road Home

Wednesday October 11, 2017

Our flight back to LAX left in the evening at 5pm so we had a full day to chill and get any last minute shopping done. We checked out of the apartment and put our bags inside the luggage lockers at the Kinshichō station before heading out again. We headed to Shibuya to do some shopping at our favorite stores as well as get one last St Marcs Cafe chocolate croissant.

The last thing we had to do was to visit our tree. This is the tree outside of the Shin-Nihombashi station that was really the icon of our first two trips to Tokyo back in 2004. On our subsequent trips back in 2015 and 2016 we made sure to take a photo with the tree. Its become something of a tradition that I hope we continue as long as we continue to visit Japan.

Before we knew it, it was time to collect our bags and take the train out to Narita Airport. We took more of a local express instead of the direct train since it was easier from Kinshichō station and it took a bit longer than normal, but we made it without too much difficulty. It certainly was easier than the 2016 weekend trip.

Flying home, our tickets were on ANA – an airline I had never been on before. It was a wonderful experience with full Japanese hospitality. It wasn’t a 787 like the United flight over to Japan, but instead it was a 777. It wasn’t terrible and the service and entertainment made all of the difference in the world.

Back to reality at LAX, we managed to get to Daniels car after awaiting the shuttle bus which seemed like it took forever. At long last after dropping Leslie off at home, Daniel and I headed home to chill, unpack and get ready for our next adventure.
