Watching the lightning and rain from a discrete distance

Mom was in town this weekend with Gary and we decided to drive up San Gabriel Canyon to look at the old family cabin site (it burned to the ground in a huge fire in 2002). As we got out of the car, it started to thunder, lightning, and rain so we decided to drive down the mountain and over to Glendora Mountain Road to observe the show. I was nervous in a few places as we seemed exposed to any random lightning, and on the way I snapped the above photo of a dangerous cell that was lurking nearby. This cell produced some great lightning, but sadly was not captured by my camera.
